Holidays to Croatia under £1000

Resort stays are often the most straightforward route to a budget Croatian break, provided you pick a base where the beach and transfers stay simple.

• Brac island (Bol): Bol suits budget travellers who want a beach resort without the price tag of the bigger Dalmatian harbour towns. Zlatni Rat, the famous pebble beach, sits a short walk from the town centre, and its shape changes with the wind and currents. Ferries from the mainland reach the island regularly, so the transfer is a planned crossing rather than an expensive private car. The best value here arrives in the shoulder months of spring and early autumn, when the beach is calm and rooms are easier to secure. value-led deals on this island suit couples and families alike. It is exactly the brief our Croatia Beach Holidays deals are built around.
• Makarska Riviera: The Makarska Riviera sits on the mainland coast roughly an hour's drive south of the main airport hub, and its pebble beaches and promenade offer good value for a self-directed break. The town has a steady supply of apartments and small hotels, which keeps prices competitive outside the peak summer weeks. Buses connect the coast with the airport and the wider region, so you can avoid a costly transfer. Its strength is simplicity, with a long seafront and easy access to nearby beaches, the same brief our Croatia Adults Only Holidays deals are built around.
• Podstrana: Podstrana is a mainland resort strip just outside the largest Dalmatian port, popular with visitors who want a quieter base and quick access to the city. Hotels here tend to be more modest than those in the old town, which helps the overall package stay within budget. Local buses run into the city, so you can explore the palace and ferry port without paying for taxis each day. It works well for travellers who want the city on their doorstep at a lower nightly rate.
• Trogir: Trogir is a small medieval old town on an island, a short drive from the largest Dalmatian port, with a UNESCO-listed historic centre. Its compact streets and harbourfront cafés provide plenty to do without premium pricing, and accommodation in the surrounding area is often more affordable than in the city itself. Buses link it with the port city, which keeps transfers simple. We recommend it for travellers who want culture on a budget and are happy to base themselves a little away from the busiest sights. • Biograd na Moru: Biograd na Moru is a small resort town on the central Dalmatian coast with a sheltered marina and a quieter pace than the larger ports. Its accommodation is typically modest, and it sits within reach of the Kornati archipelago, which makes it a sensible base for boat trips. The trade-off is a longer journey from the main airports, so transport time should be factored into the overall budget, the same brief our island-hopping holidays deals are built around.
