Last Minute Holidays to Morocco

The resorts below are the places most British travellers consider first when they search for a short-notice trip, and each suits a different kind of holiday.

• Agadir: Agadir is a modern beach resort on the Atlantic coast with a long sandy bay and a promenade lined with cafes and hotels. Agadir Al Massira Airport is the main gateway, which keeps transfers short compared with inland destinations. The trade-off is that the resort feels more modern than historic, so the old character found in the imperial cities is limited. We recommend it for travellers who want reliable sunshine and beach facilities at short notice. It is exactly the brief our Morocco holidays deals are built around.
• Marrakech: Marrakech is the best-known of Morocco's imperial cities, with a walled old town, a famous central square and riads that open onto quiet courtyards. The city sits at the foot of the Atlas Mountains and is served by its own international airport, with the centre usually reached by taxi. Summer temperatures inland can climb well above 35°C, so timing matters. We suggest it for travellers who want culture, souks and nightlife within a single city. • Essaouira: Essaouira is a fortified seaside town with a UNESCO-listed old town and a working fishing harbour a short walk from the old walls. It is a long road journey from the interior cities, so it is usually reached by road transfer, which takes longer than the airport run into the city. The town is windier and quieter than the resorts, which suits travellers who want a slower coastal pace. We recommend it as a relaxed counterpoint to a busier city stay.
• Fes: Fes is the most historic of the imperial cities, and its old town is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. The old town contains a mosque and university with centuries of history, along with the tanneries and craft quarters that visitors come to see. The city is linked by train to the coast, which makes it easy to combine with other stops on a longer itinerary. It is the right choice for travellers who want to explore a deep medina and traditional craftsmanship.
• Casablanca: Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and its main commercial centre, with a modern skyline and a grand mosque standing on the Atlantic coast. It is a principal port for ferry services, and it is linked by rail to the other major cities of the north and interior. The city is less of a traditional holiday destination than the coastal resorts, so it suits visitors combining business or transit with sightseeing. We include it for travellers who want a city base with good rail connections. It is exactly the brief our Morocco Family Holidays deals are built around.
