Holidays to Morocco under £700

Coastal resorts are where budget packages in Morocco most often come together, because hotel stock is large and transfers are short.

• Agadir: Agadir is the main package-holiday resort on the Atlantic coast, with a long sandy bay and a promenade that runs for miles along the shore. Its airport, Agadir Al Massira, sits a short drive from the hotels, which keeps transfer times and costs low and lets more of your budget go on the room itself. The resort has a large stock of hotels at a range of prices, so it is usually the easiest place to find a sound three- or four-star base at a sensible rate. We regard it as the most dependable starting point for a budget trip. It is exactly the brief our Morocco holidays deals are built around.
• Essaouira: Essaouira is a fortified seaside town where the medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the harbour remains a working fishing port. It sits roughly 170 km from the imperial city to the east, so it suits travellers who want a relaxed coastal base without the cost of a long transfer from the airport. Hotels here are smaller and more varied than those found along the southern beach resorts, and the rates reflect that. Its quieter pace is the reason we recommend it to those who would rather spend their money on walks and seafood than on resort facilities. It is exactly the brief our Cheap Morocco Holidays deals are built around.
• Tangier: Tangier sits close to the Strait of Gibraltar and is the nearest point of the African mainland to Europe, with regular ferry links to Spain from its busy harbour. Because it is a major arrival city, flights and transfers are frequent, which helps keep the overall package cost controlled. The resort offers a mix of city and coastal life, though it is busier and less purpose-built than the purpose-designed beach resorts further down the Moroccan Atlantic coast. For a budget trip that values easy connections over beach resort facilities, it makes a practical base.
• Asilah: Asilah is a small whitewashed fortified town on the Atlantic coast, known for its colourful medina and street murals. It is far less visited than the imperial cities, so accommodation tends to be modest and inexpensive, and a short hop from the nearby port city keeps the travel element of the budget low. The town is compact enough to explore on foot in a day. We suggest it to travellers who want a quiet, characterful base and are happy to accept fewer large hotels.
• Oualidia: Oualidia is a small lagoon town on the Atlantic coast, a short drive from the historic fortified city of Jadida, and it is known for its oysters and calm, sheltered waters. Its accommodation is limited and simple, which keeps rates low, but it also means it works best as a short stop rather than the sole base for a full week. Transfers from larger airports take longer, so it suits travellers who can plan a multi-stop route. We recommend it for those who value seafood and tranquillity over choice of hotels.
