Canary Islands Holidays in May

The warmest and most settled conditions in May tend to sit on the sheltered southern coasts of the larger islands, where sunshine is strongest and the air feels most summery.

• Lanzarote: Lanzarote is one of the driest and sunniest islands in the group, and its low, volcanic landscape keeps the air feeling bright and clear through May. Coastal towns on the south side tend to hold the most consistent warmth, making them a dependable choice if you want reliable sunshine for beach days. The trade-off is that the island is more exposed to wind on open coasts, so choosing a sheltered spot matters. In our view, this island is the strongest pick for travellers who want the warmest, most predictable conditions with a dramatic landscape to explore between swims. It is exactly the brief our Lanzarote holidays deals are built around.
• Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca sits in the south of the island, and its sheltered sandy beaches tend to feel warmer and calmer than exposed north-facing coasts during May. The resort is compact, so you can walk to the seafront restaurants and beaches without relying on a car for every outing. Its position also means it is well placed for a day trip by ferry to a neighbouring island, which adds variety without changing your base. For travellers seeking steady sunshine, easy evenings and a relaxed resort rhythm throughout the month, it is the kind of setting our Canary Islands All Inclusive Holidays deals are built around.
• Costa Adeje: Costa Adeje lies in the south-west of Tenerife, where the coast is sheltered and the sun tends to be dependable through late spring. The area has a wide range of hotels and beaches, so it suits families and couples who want easy access to pools and sea swimming on the same day. Because it is a large resort area, the beaches can be busier than quieter corners of the island, though May is still well below the summer peak. We rate it as a practical, warm base for a May holiday with plenty of choice. It is exactly the brief our Tenerife holidays deals are built around.
• Maspalomas: Maspalomas is in the south of Gran Canaria, where the coast enjoys strong May sunshine and the dunes give the resort a distinctive setting. The area is known for long beaches and a relaxed resort feel, with golf and promenade dining close at hand for those who want variety. The dunes are protected, so visitors walk on marked paths rather than across the whole area, which keeps the landscape intact. For guests who want a warm, sunny stay with a slower pace, this resort is a sound choice. It is exactly the brief our Gran Canaria holidays deals are built around.
• Fuerteventura Coast: Fuerteventura is the closest of the islands to the African coast and tends to be one of the warmest and windiest in the group during May. The landscape is low and open, with long pale beaches that stretch for kilometres and give plenty of room even when the resorts are busy. The wind can be strong on exposed coasts, which is ideal for water sports but less comfortable for sunbathing, so choose your beach with care. We suggest it for travellers who enjoy space, wide skies and sunshine that feels consistently strong. It is exactly the brief our Fuerteventura holidays deals are built around.
