Family Holidays to Canary Islands

The busiest resorts give families the most choice of hotels, restaurants and daytime activities, although they can be lively in the evenings.

• Costa Adeje: Costa Adeje sits in the south-west of the island and is one of the best-known family resort areas there. It has a wide range of hotels with pools and kids clubs, plus water parks and a choice of beaches within a short drive. The trade-off is that it can feel busy at peak times, so booking a hotel close to the quieter stretches of coast is worth the effort. We recommend it for families who want plenty of organised daytime fun. It is exactly the brief our Tenerife holidays deals are built around.
• Maspalomas: Maspalomas, on the south coast of the island, combines a long beach with a relaxed resort feel that suits families who want a calmer pace. The resort sits beside the dunes, so children can enjoy the sand and the walking routes without needing a car for every outing. Evenings tend to be quieter than in the busier southern resorts, which many parents prefer after a full day outdoors. It is a strong choice for families who value space and a more gentle atmosphere. • Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca sits on the southern coast of the island, offering sandy beaches in a quiet, low-rise town. It has the advantage of ferry links to the neighbouring island, which makes it easy to add a second island to a longer trip. The town is smaller than the larger Canary resorts, so there are fewer big hotel complexes and attractions on the doorstep. We suggest it for families who want a restful base with easy access to another island. It is exactly the brief our holidays deals on this island are built around. • Corralejo: Corralejo, at the northern tip of the island, is a fishing village beside the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park. Its long sandy beaches include stretches with gentle shallow water that suit younger children, and the dunes make a striking backdrop for family walks. The village is compact and easy to explore on foot, though it has fewer large family attractions than the bigger resorts. It works well for families who want beaches and open landscapes rather than theme parks. It is exactly the brief our island holiday deals are built around. • Puerto de la Cruz: Puerto de la Cruz is a traditional resort on the island's north coast, with black-sand beaches and historic streets. Its best-known family draw is Loro Parque, a large zoo and marine park that many families build a full day around. The north coast is generally cooler and greener than the south, which can suit families who prefer milder days for sightseeing. Parents seeking culture alongside the beach will find it a rewarding base.
