Canary Islands Holidays in February

February brings some of the mildest coastal days of the year, and the places below hold their warmth best through the month.

• Playa de las Américas: Playa de las Américas on the south coast of Tenerife is one of the most sheltered warm-weather bases in the archipelago in February, with long hours of sunshine on the promenade and a coastal daytime feel that suits lounging outdoors. The south of Tenerife is drier and calmer than the north, so you are more likely to find reliable sun on the beach and by the pool. The trade-off is that it is a lively resort strip, so it suits travellers who want restaurants, bars and activity close at hand rather than solitude. For a February sun break it is a dependable choice. It is exactly the brief our Tenerife holidays deals are built around.
• Maspalomas: Maspalomas in the south of Gran Canaria is known for its mild February climate, with the dunes and beaches catching strong sun through much of the month. The resort's position on the south coast means it stays comparatively warm and sheltered from the north-easterly winds that can cool the island's northern side. It is a relaxed resort with golf courses and promenade dining, so it works well for a steady, warm holiday. Expect a quieter feel than the peak summer months, which many visitors find a welcome change. It is exactly the brief our Gran Canaria holidays deals are built around.
• Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca in the south of Lanzarote is one of the warmest and driest corners of the island in February, with sandy beaches that stay pleasant for walking and swimming in the daytime. Its southern position shelters it from the trade winds that often bring cooler air to the north, making it a good base for a February beach holiday. The town is calm and low-key, so it suits couples and families who want quiet mornings and easy access to the ferry to Fuerteventura. Evenings can be cool, so pack a light layer. • Costa Adeje: Costa Adeje in south-west Tenerife combines reliable February warmth with a wide choice of hotels, beaches and family attractions, making it one of the most practical warm-weather bases on the islands. The coast is sheltered and sunny for much of the month, so beach and pool days are rarely lost to weather. It suits families who want water parks and a range of accommodation at different price points. Compared with the very busiest resort strips it can feel more spread out, so plan transport in advance. • Corralejo: Corralejo at the north tip of Fuerteventura is a fishing village beside the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park, and it is one of the best-known spots for water sports in February when the trade winds bring steady conditions. The wind that makes it popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers can make it feel cooler than the south of the island, so the sheltered beaches are the place to sit in the sun. The village has a relaxed atmosphere and clear sea, and the dunes give you a striking landscape to explore on foot. Pack layers and expect a breezier stay than in the south.
