Holidays from London to Thailand

Thailand has no direct flights from London, so every route involves a connection, and the options below show how the journey shapes each destination.

• Bangkok: Most London itineraries to Thailand arrive at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, the country's main international gateway, after a journey of around 11 hours and 30 minutes with one stop. From Suvarnabhumi the Airport Rail Link and taxis reach the city centre, so the capital is the simplest first stop for travellers who want to start their trip without an extra domestic flight. The trade-off is that the city is hot and busy, which suits culture lovers far better than those seeking a quiet arrival, and it is the same kind of brief our Thailand holidays deals are built around. We recommend it as the anchor for a longer holiday that continues onward by air.
• Phuket: Phuket has an international airport with direct domestic links to the capital, so a London itinerary can be routed through the country's main hub and continued south on a short onward flight. The island is Thailand's largest and offers a wide choice of beaches, hotels and nightlife, making it a dependable choice for a classic beach holiday. Because the connection adds time to the day, we advise booking a hotel for the first night so you can recover before exploring. It works well as the second leg of a longer trip. • Koh Samui: Koh Samui has its own airport, so guests flying from London connect through the Thai capital before a short domestic hop to the island. The island is the largest in the Gulf of Thailand and is a well-established resort destination with easy access to beaches and hotels. The domestic leg keeps the transfer manageable, but travellers should allow time between flights to avoid a rushed connection. For resort-focused holidays with straightforward airport logistics, it is a sensible choice.
• Krabi: Krabi is reached by air on a domestic connection from the capital, and the transfer from the airport to the coast usually takes around an hour by road, depending on the resort you choose. The province is known for dramatic limestone cliffs and beaches, including Railay, which is reached only by longtail boat. Adventure travellers and couples tend to value the combination of scenery and island trips, though boat transfers add extra steps on arrival, which is the same kind of practical planning our Cheap Thailand Holidays are built around. We suggest allowing a relaxed first day to settle in before heading out on the water.
• Chiang Mai: Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is reached by a short domestic hop from the country's capital, so a London trip routed through that hub can carry on north in a single brief flight. The city has an old walled centre and hundreds of Buddhist temples, offering a markedly cooler, mountain-influenced base than the southern coasts. The extra connection is worth it for travellers who want culture and hill scenery rather than beaches. Plan your return route carefully, as the north sits further from the main international airport.
