Anniversary Holidays to Thailand

Historic and mountain towns give couples slower days, cultural depth and evenings that feel distinctly private.

• Chiang Mai old town: Chiang Mai has an old walled city centre with hundreds of Buddhist temples, and its boutique guesthouses and courtyard hotels are set back from the traffic. We suggest booking a room within walking distance of the old walls so you can wander between temples at dusk without needing a taxi. The city feels calm compared with the capital, which makes it one of our favourite choices for a couple who wants history and conversation rather than a packed schedule. Thailand luxury holidays often include a stay like this.
• Doi Suthep at sunset: The temple on Doi Suthep mountain sits above the northern valley and offers wide views over the city below, reached by road or by a long staircase. Going up in the late afternoon means you can watch the light change over the valley before the temple lights come on. It is a short trip from the centre, and a hired driver makes the evening straightforward for a couple celebrating together.
• Pai's hot springs: Pai is a small mountain town reached by a winding road from the north, and it is known for its relaxed pace, hot springs and viewpoints over the surrounding hills. The road journey takes time and can be tiring, so we advise staying at least two nights to make the effort feel worthwhile. For couples who prefer a slower rhythm than the coast, Pai offers quiet mornings and unhurried evenings in a town that rarely feels crowded.
• Ayutthaya at golden hour: The former capital of the Siamese kingdom is a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 80 km north of the capital, with temple ruins spread across a park that is easy to explore by bicycle. Wat Mahathat, with its Buddha head entwined in tree roots, is best seen in the softer light of late afternoon. A day trip by train from the capital is a good way to add a historic dimension to an anniversary without changing hotels.
• Sukhothai's quieter ruins: Sukhothai Historical Park preserves the ruins of the first Siamese capital, with temples and Buddha statues set among grassy grounds that are far less visited than the big ancient sites. Couples who want a deeper, more peaceful cultural day will find it rewarding, especially in the cool season from November to February, and it is exactly the kind of quieter cultural stop our Thailand holidays deals are built around. Getting there takes a domestic flight or a long road journey, so we recommend pairing it with a night in a nearby town rather than rushing back.
