Solo Holidays to Morocco

Morocco's resort towns combine easy logistics with enough activity to keep a solo traveller busy from morning to evening.

• Agadir: Agadir is the country's main package-holiday resort on the Atlantic coast, with a long sandy bay and a promenade lined with cafes and restaurants. It is served directly by its international airport, which makes arrival and departure simple for anyone travelling alone. The trade-off is that the resort is modern and planned rather than historic, so you will need to travel into the medina areas if you want old-town atmosphere. We think it is the strongest choice for solo travellers who value reliable sunshine, easy access to the sea and a relaxed daily rhythm. Morocco holidays built around a sunny base like this are a natural fit for first-timers.
• Essaouira: Essaouira is a fortified seaside town with a UNESCO-listed medina and a working fishing port, and it is one of the easiest places in Morocco to walk around alone. Most of the sights, from the ramparts to the seafood stalls, sit within a short stroll of each other, so you can plan a full day without relying on taxis. The town is also a favourite with windsurfers and kitesurfers, which gives solo visitors a ready reason to start conversations. Its windy shoreline is cooler than the inland cities, so it suits travellers who want a gentler pace after a busier first week.
• Marrakech: Marrakech offers the classic blend of walled medina, riads and the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, and it has the widest range of guesthouses and tours aimed at independent visitors. The city sits at the foot of the Atlas Mountains and is well connected by air, which keeps onward travel simple. Its size can feel overwhelming in the narrow lanes, so solo visitors benefit from staying in a riad near the medina edge and booking a local guide for the first day. We recommend it for anyone who wants lively evenings and a strong sense of place within a compact city, the same brief our Cheap Morocco Holidays deals are built around, with plenty of budget riads to choose from.
• Fes: Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world, and its medina rewards solo travellers who enjoy slow, self-guided exploration of craft quarters and historic streets. The city is linked by rail to the country's economic capital and to the northern port city on the Strait of Gibraltar, so you can extend a solo trip without booking a flight. Navigating the old town can be disorienting, and a local guide is worth considering for the tanneries and the older university quarter. Fes suits history enthusiasts who want a deeper medina experience than the more commercial areas of other cities.
• Chefchaouen: Chefchaouen is a mountain town in the Rif range famed for its blue-washed medina, and it is compact enough to explore on foot in a single afternoon. Buses run from the coastal city to the north and from the imperial city further south, which keeps the journey manageable for someone travelling alone. The town is quieter and more intimate than the imperial cities, though accommodation options are smaller and tend to fill in spring and autumn. It is an ideal stop for solo photographers and slow travellers who prefer evening walks to nightlife.
