Aelia Luxury Suites is a small boutique hotel in the old village of Karterados, and it has just 30 suites. It is almost exactly in the centre of the island, making it fairly quick to reach almost anywhere. Each suite is inspired by the traditional style of the island, with chic furnishings and views across the swimming pool. You'll get daily buffet breakfast served on a terrace by the pool, plus dinner at the hotel's Mediterranean restaurant. Karterados village offers a more authentic, cultural experience than the big resorts on the southern coast, with lots of family-owned restaurants, winding streets filled with bougainvillea, and a much-loved traditional Greek bakery that sells fresh bread, savoury pastries, and sweet treats. You can walk to Fira in 25 minutes, so you could wander down every day if you feel like it (or hop in a taxi, which takes just five minutes). A free shuttle runs to the capital in the evenings, so you can watch the famous sunset. There's also a foot path that leads down to Exo Gialos, a remote black-sand beach with impressive basalt rock formations. This is a slightly longer 40-minute walk, and is best reached in a taxi, which takes under 10 minutes.
Air conditioning ensures that rooms maintain just the right temperature. A balcony or terrace is among the standard amenities of some rooms. Guests are sure to get a good night's sleep in the sofa bed. Children's beds can be requested for younger guests. A kitchenette with a tea/coffee station is also provided. There is a television with satellite channels and WiFi in the rooms.
The accommodation offers a range of facilities for a comfortable stay. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas.
A continental breakfast guarantees a great start to the day.

Excellent Family Hotel
Good beach Hotel
We have just returned from a wonderful stay here just before the summer rush. The hotel staff were amazing and so welcoming. Both Demetri’s, Eleni and George attended to our every need during breakfast, dinner and by the pool and were so nice to us. This is a family run hotel and the owner and his family were lovely and very welcoming. The room was lovely and cleaned daily, and the pool area is really nice. There are hot tubs by the pool which are open until 10pm so perfect for a little dip after a day of exploring if that’s your fancy. The hotel is in Karterados, which is less than 6 mins from the capital Fira by car and maybe 15-20 mins on foot. If you have mobility issues, there is a shuttle that you can book free of charge from the hotel that will take you into Fira, it’s available for all guests, however it leaves the hotel at 5.30pm and collects you for return from Fira at 9.30pm. We hired a car during our stay, however the buses were more than ample. There is a bus station in Fira and buses run regularly to Oia and all the beaches on the island. So no need to spend loads of money on car hire (we made that mistake). There are lots of places to eat so lots of choice on the island and you may get a better deal on excursions from the tour guides in Fira depending on what you want to do, however the hotel have some really good options also so best to check it out beforehand if you can. All in all, we would’ve stayed longer if we could and would definitely stay here again. Thanks for making our stay both welcoming and comfortable 😀
The AELIA Hotel is a family run business. This Hotel in our opinion is definitely not 5 star. When we arrived at the Hotel nothing stood out giving us the impression this was anything but luxury or 5 star The room we were given on arrival had a constant smell of drains coming from the bathroom complained constantly. Breakfast wasn’t great we had to set our table with cutlery plates cups and cereal bowls before getting our food from the almost cold containers, The only thing that was hot was if you ordered an omelette that was cooked fresh. The breakfast /dining room was just like a Cafe. The eve meal was said to be A La Cart menu all I can say is whoever took the photos of the menu done a fantastic job as the food we ate was nothing like it. Eve dinner is set if it’s not to your liking you will not be offered anything else. No lunch is provided but snacks & drinks can be purchased from the pool bar. The Hotel is miles from anywhere so be prepared for a long walk or get a taxi. The Barman Dimitri was just amazing he works incredibly hard plus long hours but still has time for everything and everyone if he can help he will, Dimitri is such an asset to this Hotel. Family members on reception were rude. Change would benefit the AELIA greatly. The potential is their for it to be absolutely fantastic.
We were greeted with warmth and care for our wellbeing the whole 4 days we spent here. Whatever reviews mentioned from last year etc has all changed - the rooms are amazing (done in traditional style to make it more genuine - but with all mod cons) the shower, balcony, aircon etc were perfect. The owner has responded well to previous feedback and we did not experience anything horrible from having a working family all involved in the business they are proud of. Much effort was made in making sure we were comfortable and there were many unexpected generosities too. We would definitely book here again on future trips - best time of year end of May/beginning of June for weather and least amount of congestion.
A wonderful hotel with equally wonderful staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Accommodation was first class with lots of room, balcony, fantastic shower and large comfortable bed. Lots of extras were provided such as amenity kits, water, tea and coffee, slippers and bathrobes. Everywhere was exceptionally clean. Food was very good with lovely Greek pies, thick creamy Greek yoghurt and hot and cold choices for breakfast. Dinner was included for us and was 5 courses of very well cooked, and tasty Greek food. There is an unheated swimming pool and 4 hot pools with towels provided. The dining room was not very large and sometimes we struggled to find a table inside. It was possible to wait for a table to become free but it was quite cold in the evenings to sit outside both to eat and drink at the bar. Location is very peaceful and quiet and about a 35 min walk into Fira via a series of alleyways which take you uphill to the village of Karterados. You can get a bus from Karterados into Fira which cuts out about 15-20 mins of walking. You can also get a bus from Karterados to Pyrgos, Perissa and Akrotiri. We walked into Fira and back most days and it was not difficult. Blue Monkey Brewery is about a 10 min walk from Karterados. The hotel provides a free shuttle to Fira in the evening to see the sunset. Definitely a first class place to stay.
I booked this getaway with Jetline Hoildays - I had not used them before; I'm pleased to write that they did as promised- my only grumble is the €50 euro each way from the airport to travel 1.8 km (though the private transfer was in a lovely Mercedes)… my bad, I should've done my homework before booking! A taxi will cost around €20 each way. Anyway, back to the hotel. My husband and I travel a lot and are a bit fussy, we normally go to the Canaries - always 5* same in London or wherever we go. Hotels around the world have different definitions of 5* and after reading some of the Trip Advisor reviews it was fair to say I was nervous about this booking. After a chilled week at this hotel, I consider it to be a rural, wellness retreat as it left me feeling relaxed and healthy. The 1/2 board food for vegetarians was mainly clean and healthy (hubby has a nut allergy no problem catering for that). Moreover, you are served 4 courses each night - no flexibility though, you have one choice as a vegetarian and if you don't like it then order room service or fend for yourself. Breakfast was as expected for a small, family run hotel. Not the best orange juice and you will need to make your own warm beverages, and no breakfast bubbles! But plenty to fill up on. Within the spacious room a safe is provided free of charge, the bed lining is high-quality and the pillows and bed really comfortable. Great dressing gowns too. The blackout curtains ensure a comfortable sleep. The toiletries provided were of good quality meaning my hair didn't get the usual frizz it gets when I'm away. The air con was silent and efficient as was the mini fridge. Our room was spotless as were the communal areas -the staff work hard to keep standards high. The sun loungers and umbrellas were some of the best I have seen, and the cocktails served at the bar were tasty and strong - well worth €12. The pool bar provided lovely music throughout the stay. When we left the hotel to go to the beach, towels were provided. We enjoyed walking to the local beach and town both of which take about 30mins and are up/down hills. Important Points This hotel does not provide entertainment or pool activities- it is about chilling. The settling is rural - donkeys, farmland and sea are your views. The Wi-Fi is not the best which for me is a win as it means a break from reality. You will get 2 coffee capsules and 2 tea bags daily without milk (the kettle and Lilly machine work as they should) and 1 litre of water is provided complimentary daily. Supermarket is a 30 min away walk - good for filling up the mini fridge. The chips at the pool bar are delicious- homemade with the skins on - yummy (I do not normally recommend chips but these are with a mention)! The family management team are always available to assist.
