When Are Maldives Prices Cheapest?

Maldives prices bottom out between May and October, during the southwest monsoon. Resorts that charge peak rates in February drop substantially across these months – same villa, same lagoon, same 30°C sea.

The catch is rain, and it’s less of a catch than people assume. Wet season in the Maldives means short heavy downpours, usually clearing within an hour, not days of grey. You’ll still get most of the day in sunshine.

That price gap is why the Maldives shows up more often than people expect when browsing cheap all inclusive holidays – wet-season resort rates land closer to mainstream beach destinations than the brochure photos suggest.

What Is the Best Month to Visit the Maldives?

February and March are the driest months and the best weather bet – but they’re also the most expensive and busiest.

April and November are the sweet spot. April closes the dry season with the warmest sea of the year at 30°C, before wet-season pricing arrives. November sits the other side, with rain easing and rates still below the December peak. Both give you near-dry-season conditions without paying dry-season prices.

Is the Maldives Worth Visiting in Wet Season?

Yes – with one honest caveat. Wet-season rain arrives in short bursts and clears fast, leaving plenty of sunshine. Resorts are quieter, prices are far lower, and the sea stays at 29°C.

The caveat is the sea itself. Southwest monsoon brings choppier water and reduced visibility, which matters if diving or snorkelling is the whole point of your trip. If you’re there for the villa and the lagoon, it barely registers.

How Can You Visit the Maldives on a Budget?

The cheapest way into the Maldives isn’t timing – it’s staying on a local island instead of a private resort. Guesthouses on islands like Maafushi and Dhigurah cost a fraction of resort rates, with the same beaches and reef access.
