Canary Islands Holidays in December

The south coasts of the larger islands hold the most reliable warmth through the month, with daytime temperatures usually well suited to beach days.

• Maspalomas: Maspalomas on the south coast of Gran Canaria is one of the most dependable places for warm December afternoons, because its sheltered southern position catches the sun for long hours. The resort sits beside the protected dunes of the Maspalomas natural reserve, so you can walk on sand before the bars and restaurants fill up in the evening. Expect a relaxed resort feel with golf courses and a steady flow of visitors through the month. It suits anyone who wants a dependable beach base rather than a busy city stay. It is exactly the brief our Canary Islands holidays deals are built around.
• Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca in the south of Lanzarote offers sandy beaches and some of the most consistent sunshine on the island during December. The town is an easy base for quiet beach days, and its ferry links to Fuerteventura make it practical if you want to see a second island. The south of Lanzarote is generally drier and calmer than the north, which helps when you want a day in the sun without strong wind. It is a sensible choice for couples and anyone who values a settled, low-key seaside stay, the same kind of brief our Canary Islands Last Minute Holidays deals are built around.
• Costa Adeje: Costa Adeje in the south-west of Tenerife combines dependable warmth with a wide range of family hotels, water parks and well-kept beaches. Its south-west position means it receives strong sun through the middle of the day, and the coastline is generally sheltered from the northern winds that can cool other parts of the island. Expect a busy resort atmosphere with plenty of choice for dining and evening entertainment. It works well if you want reliable weather and plenty of things to do close to your hotel.
• Puerto del Carmen: Puerto del Carmen on the south-east coast of Lanzarote is a long-established resort with a promenade, sandy coves and plenty of cafés that stay open through December. The south-east of the island is sheltered enough for comfortable sitting outdoors on most days, and the resort is a short drive from the volcanic landscapes of the interior. You will find a lively but not frantic seafront, with a mix of hotels and self-catering apartments. It is a good choice for travellers who want warmth with easy access to the rest of the island.
• Corralejo: Corralejo at the north tip of Fuerteventura receives strong sunshine and steady trade winds, which keep the air fresh even when the afternoons are warm. The village sits beside a protected dune landscape, so long sandy walks are available within a short distance of the town. The wind can be lively, which is ideal for water sports but less appealing if you want completely still conditions for sunbathing. It is best suited to visitors who enjoy fresh air, open landscapes and an active approach to their winter sun break. Fuerteventura holidays suit this kind of active stay well.
