Honeymoon Holidays to Canary Islands

Small historic towns give honeymooners whitewashed streets, slow evenings and a sense of place that resort strips rarely offer.

• Haría, Lanzarote: Haría sits in the north of Lanzarote and is known as the Valley of a Thousand Palms, with whitewashed lanes and wide views over the island. It is a short drive from the coast, which makes it a good daytime outing for a couple who want scenery without being far from their hotel. We suggest a late lunch here followed by a slow walk, because the village is at its most atmospheric once the day-trippers have left. It is exactly the brief our Lanzarote holidays deals are built around.
• Garachico, Tenerife: Garachico is a small historic town on the north-west coast of Tenerife, with a historic harbour and a natural rock pool that feels private at quieter times of day. It is noticeably calmer than the resorts in the south of the island, so it suits couples who want atmosphere over entertainment. The trade-off is fewer large hotels nearby, so we typically pair it with a boutique stay in the surrounding area. It is exactly the brief our Tenerife holidays deals are built around.
• Valle Gran Rey, La Gomera: Valle Gran Rey is a laid-back village on the west coast of La Gomera, with a long ravine running down to the sea and a low-rise skyline that keeps it quiet. Coastal walking routes and unhurried dinners make it ideal for couples who want a slower pace after the wedding. Access to the island is by ferry rather than a short hop, so we factor in travel time carefully when building the itinerary.
• Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife: Puerto de la Cruz is a traditional resort town on the north coast of Tenerife, with historic Old Town streets, volcanic black-sand beaches and the Jardín Botánico Canario Viera y Clavijo. It offers a calmer, more cultured base than the busier south, and its gardens and sea-view terraces suit a honeymoon built around slow mornings. Expect a cooler, breezier feel on this coast than in the south of the island, the same brief our Canary Islands Last Minute Holidays deals are built around.
• Arrecife, Lanzarote: Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote and sits beside the Charco de San Ginés lagoon, with the Castillo de San Gabriel guarding the waterfront. It is a practical base for couples who want to explore the island's volcanic scenery by day and enjoy waterfront restaurants in the evening. It is more urban than the villages, so couples seeking pure seclusion may prefer a quieter stay further out. It is exactly the brief our Canary Islands Luxury Holidays deals are built around.
