Couples Holidays to Canary Islands

These resort areas suit two travellers who want a comfortable base with good dining, pools and easy access to the coast.

• Maspalomas: Maspalomas offers a relaxed resort feel with long beaches backed by dunes, and it is a natural choice for couples who want golf, sunsets and quiet evenings. Hotels here are set back from the sand, so you can walk to the dunes in the late afternoon and return for dinner without needing a taxi. We find it works well for couples who want a stable, predictable week rather than a constant round of activity, the same brief our Canary Islands Adults Only Holidays deals are built around. The trade-off is that the resort is less spontaneous than a town centre, so you will spend most of your time within its own boundaries.
• Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca in the south of the island is a quieter beach holiday base, with sandy beaches and a waterfront that suits slow mornings and unhurried lunches, the same brief our Canary Islands All Inclusive Holidays deals are built around. It also has ferry links to the neighbouring island from the northern port of the island, which lets a couple add a second island to their trip without a long journey. The village is calmer than the busier south-west resorts, which is why we recommend it for travellers who want rest rather than nightlife. Expect fewer big-name attractions on the doorstep, and plan your days around the sea and short day trips.
• Puerto de la Cruz: Puerto de la Cruz on the north coast of Tenerife is a traditional resort with volcanic black-sand beaches, historic streets and gardens that reward a slow walk. The area is cooler and greener than the south of the island, which suits couples who prefer culture and cafés to sunbathing from dawn until dusk. It is also home to Loro Parque, so the town has more to fill a day than many coastal bases. The trade-off is that the sea is often rougher on this coast, so this is a base for gentle swimming rather than long sessions in the water. It is exactly the brief our Tenerife holidays deals are built around.
• Costa Adeje: Costa Adeje in the south-west of Tenerife combines a wide choice of hotels with a long run of beaches and a strong range of restaurants and bars, which is exactly the kind of variety our Canary Islands Beach Holidays are built around. For couples, the appeal is flexibility: you can choose a quiet adults-focused hotel or a larger property with several pools and dining options within a short walk. The area is busy, especially in peak months, so booking a room with a view or away from the main road makes a real difference to the stay. We recommend it when you want a resort with plenty of choice, rather than a remote hideaway.
• Corralejo: Corralejo, at the north tip of the Canary Islands' sandy island, is a fishing village beside the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park, and it suits couples who want wide sandy beaches, water sports and a laid-back village atmosphere. Hotels in the village are a short walk from the seafront restaurants, so you can spend the evening outdoors without relying on a car. The dunes are dramatic and quiet at sunrise, which is a memorable start for two. The village is small, so nightlife is limited, and it is better for couples seeking calm evenings than a lively social scene. It is exactly the brief our island holidays deals are built around.
