Last Minute Holidays to Canary Islands in January

Resort towns remain the most popular choice for last minute January bookings, offering reliable hotel stock and easy access to beaches and evening entertainment.

• Costa Adeje: Costa Adeje sits in the south-west of the Canary Islands' largest island and is a strong choice for families who want a wide choice of hotels, water parks and sheltered beaches close together. In January it tends to offer good availability across the range, from budget apartments to larger resort hotels, though the most popular family rooms can sell out first. Expect a busy, well-serviced resort rather than a quiet village, which suits travellers who want facilities on the doorstep. We recommend it for families and those who value convenience over solitude. Browse our Canary Islands Family Holidays for family-friendly options.
• Playa de las Américas: Playa de las Américas is a lively resort on the south coast of the island, known for its nightlife, bars and a busy promenade that stays active through the winter months. It is a practical January base for younger travellers and groups who want restaurants and evening options within walking distance of their hotel. The trade-off is that the centre can feel crowded and noisy late at night, so it is worth checking the hotel location carefully before booking. We suggest it for those who want a social resort atmosphere. It is exactly the brief our island holiday deals are built around. • Maspalomas: Maspalomas lies in the south of the island beside the protected dunes and offers a relaxed resort feel with long beaches, golf courses and a wide range of hotels. In January the south of the island typically enjoys reliable sunshine, and the resort suits couples and older travellers who want a calm setting with good walking routes. Transfers from the island airport are short, which keeps travel time low once you land. We think it is an excellent choice for a restful winter beach break. • Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca is a relaxed resort town on the southern tip of the Canary Islands' eastern neighbour, offering sandy beaches and a more peaceful rhythm than the bigger resorts found elsewhere in the archipelago. Ferry links from the northern harbour town on the same island make it easy to reach the neighbouring island. It suits travellers hoping for a tranquil beach break in January with the option of a day trip across the water. Because the town is smaller, the choice of hotels is more limited, so booking early is wise if you have particular needs. It is an ideal pick for anyone seeking calm shores and simple island-hopping. • Corralejo: Corralejo sits at the northern tip of the island beside the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park and is a well-known base for water sports and long sandy beaches. In January the breezy conditions suit windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts, though those seeking flat, still water may prefer a more sheltered beach. The village atmosphere is relaxed and the dunes make for dramatic walks, with a good choice of mid-range accommodation. We suggest it for active travellers who want sand, space and sport.
