Last Minute Holidays to Morocco in January

Resort bases offer the simplest January option, with beaches, hotels and easy access to the rest of the country.

• Agadir: Agadir is the main package-holiday resort on the Atlantic coast, built around a long sandy bay and a promenade that stays comfortable for walking in winter. The resort was rebuilt after a 1960 earthquake, so its hotels are modern and its facilities are straightforward to use. In January the coastal climate is noticeably milder than inland, which suits travellers who want sunshine without the summer heat. We recommend Agadir for those who want a relaxed beach base close to the airport. It is exactly the brief our Morocco holidays deals are built around.
• Essaouira: Essaouira is a fortified seaside town with a UNESCO-listed medina, a quieter alternative to the busier resorts further south. Its windy beaches are popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, and the working harbour offers a steady view of fishing boats and a seafood market. Winter brings more wind and cooler evenings than the summer months, which some visitors find refreshing. We suggest it for travellers who want a calmer coastal pace. It is exactly the brief our Morocco Adults Only Holidays deals are built around.
• Marrakech: Marrakech sits at the foot of the Atlas Mountains and offers riads, souks and the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square, although January is noticeably cooler here than on the coast. Evenings can feel chilly, so pack layers for walking the medina after dark. The city is a major hub with frequent connections, which keeps last minute options more plentiful than in smaller towns. Choose it if culture and city life matter more to you than beach time. It is exactly the brief our Morocco Last Minute Holidays deals are built around.
• Fes: Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world, and its medina rewards slow exploration on foot through the craft quarters and tanneries. January is cooler and wetter than the coast, so the narrow lanes can feel damp on some days. Trains link Fes with the economic capital on the Atlantic and the northern port city on the Strait, which makes it easy to combine with another stop. We recommend Fes for travellers who want the deepest medina experience.
• Casablanca: Casablanca is Morocco's largest port and main commercial city, with a modern centre and the striking Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic coast. It is less of a classic beach resort than the southern coastal towns, but its rail connections to the imperial city in the south and to the capital just up the coast make it a practical base. Winter here is mild, although the wind off the ocean can make it feel cooler than the forecast suggests. We suggest it as a sensible hub for those planning several cities.
