New Year to Morocco

The coastal and southern parts of Morocco generally offer the mildest winter conditions, so these are the places we focus on when warmth is the priority over the festive week.

• Agadir: Agadir sits on the Atlantic coast and is the main package-holiday resort on that stretch, with a long sandy bay and a palm-lined promenade. Winter days here tend to be mild and sunny compared with the cooler inland cities, and the Atlantic breezes keep the temperature comfortable for walking along the front. The trade-off is that the resort feels more modern and purpose-built than the historic medinas, so it suits travellers who want reliable sunshine and beach time over old-town atmosphere. We would recommend it to anyone who values a predictable warm base for the New Year week. It is exactly the brief our Morocco holidays deals are built around.
• Essaouira: Essaouira is a fortified seaside town on the Atlantic coast, and its winter weather is milder and calmer than the interior, with the sea air keeping daytime temperatures pleasant for strolling the ramparts. Because the town sits a short drive from the inland imperial city by road, it makes an easy coastal complement to a stay in that busy hub, the same brief our Morocco Luxury Holidays deals are built around. The winds can be strong along the beach, which is excellent for watersports enthusiasts but less appealing for those who prefer still, sheltered sunbathing. We think it rewards travellers who want warmth with a slower and more relaxed festive rhythm.
• Marrakech: Marrakech lies inland at the foot of the Atlas Mountains and is generally warmer than the coast during the daytime in the New Year period, with pleasant sunny days that are ideal for wandering the historic old quarter and gardens. Nights can turn cool, so a light layer is useful after dark, and the city is a dependable choice for a warm festive break with plenty to see. The compromise is that the old quarter's streets are busy and can feel intense for some visitors, so we suggest it for those who enjoy a lively urban setting. It remains one of our most popular New Year options for a warm and culturally rich week. It is exactly the brief our Cheap Morocco Holidays deals are built around.
• Tangier: Tangier sits in the north near the Strait of Gibraltar and enjoys a milder winter climate than the high inland areas, with the Mediterranean moderating temperatures through the festive period. It is the nearest point of the African mainland to Europe and has a port and a long history as a crossroads of cultures. Winters here can be wetter than in the south, so you should pack for occasional rain alongside the sunshine. We recommend it for travellers who want a warm northern base with easy access to the wider country by train.
• Casablanca: Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and main commercial centre, sitting on the Atlantic coast where winter days are generally mild and rarely as cold as the interior. It offers a modern urban setting with the striking Hassan II Mosque on the seafront, and the train network makes onward travel to other cities straightforward. The city is less of a traditional holiday resort than the coastal towns further south, so it suits travellers who want warmth combined with a business-style urban energy, the same brief our Morocco Beach Holidays deals are built around. It works well as a practical warm base for a short festive stay.
