Romantic Holidays to Morocco

Smaller towns give couples a slower pace, with quiet streets and a more personal feel than the largest cities.

• Chefchaouen: Chefchaouen sits in the Rif Mountains and is famed for its blue-painted medina, which makes evening walks feel intimate and unhurried. The town is quieter than the imperial cities, so couples can linger over mint tea without the crowds. We suggest booking a room near the upper lanes, where the view opens over the rooftops and the light changes beautifully towards dusk. It is exactly the brief our Morocco holidays deals are built around.
• Fes: Fes is home to one of the largest car-free old towns anywhere on earth, and its labyrinthine lanes reward a couple who enjoy wandering off the map together. The historic centre of the city is more demanding to find your way through than the other imperial cities of Morocco, so we recommend staying in a riad and arranging a guide for the first morning. The trade-off is intensity, but for a couple who love history and craftsmanship, the depth of the experience is hard to match.
• Asilah: Asilah is a small whitewashed fortified town on the Atlantic coast, a short drive north of Morocco's largest port city, with street murals and a relaxed seafront that feels far removed from busier resorts. It is less visited than the imperial cities, which means quieter lanes and fewer tour groups in the evenings. A short stay here pairs well with a longer city visit, and we think it works best for couples who value calm over constant activity.
• Ifrane: Ifrane is a small town in the Middle Atlas styled after Alpine architecture, and it is popular for its winter snow and cool, crisp air. For a romantic trip in colder months it offers a very different atmosphere from the desert or the coast, with log fires and mountain walks. It is a quieter alternative to the busier imperial cities further south, though its amenities are more limited, so we suggest a boutique hotel with dining on site.
• Tafraoute: Tafraoute is a mountain town in the Anti-Atlas, surrounded by painted boulders and valleys that suit slow walking and sunset viewpoints. The landscape is quiet and largely uncrowded, which makes it ideal for couples seeking privacy away from the busier tourist circuit. Access is by road rather than rail, so we factor longer transfers into the itinerary and recommend a guesthouse with a terrace.
