Cheap Holidays from Birmingham to Canary Islands

Resorts that combine good value with straightforward airport transfers make the strongest base for a budget package from Birmingham.

• Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca sits in the south of the island and gives a quieter beach holiday than the larger resort strips, with sandy bays and a relaxed evening pace. Its value comes from lower prices outside the peak weeks, although the drive from the island's main airport takes longer than in the more central resorts, so you should allow for that in your planning. For travellers who want calm and cost control together, we think it is one of the most sensible starting points across the Canary Islands, and a popular choice for a sun-soaked. It is exactly the brief our holidays in this sunny corner of the Atlantic are built around. It is exactly the brief our Lanzarote holidays deals are built around.
• Corralejo: Corralejo is a fishing village at the north tip of Fuerteventura, close to the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park and its long sandy beaches. It works well for budget travellers who want wide open beaches and simple, low-cost food, though the choice of big-name hotels is narrower than in the south. We like it for guests who value space and scenery over nightlife, and who are happy to trade resort amenities for a more authentic village feel, which suits Fuerteventura holidays.
• Maspalomas: Maspalomas on the south coast of the Canary Islands pairs a broad beach with the protected dunes that run alongside the resort, offering a relaxed setting with plenty of accommodation at different price points. Prices can rise sharply in peak winter months, so travelling in the shoulder season tends to deliver the best balance of cost and weather. It suits guests who want a classic sun-and-sand base with easy access to the wider island, and it is a strong pick among holidays in the Canaries.
• Puerto de la Cruz: Puerto de la Cruz sits on the north coast of the island, a traditional resort town with volcanic black-sand beaches, historic streets and the Loro Parque zoo. Its north-facing position means the weather can be cooler and cloudier than the sunnier south, which is worth knowing when comparing prices with other resorts. For budget travellers who prefer character and culture over constant sunshine, it offers good value across island holidays.
• Arrecife: Arrecife, the island's capital, is a practical base for guests who want an urban stay with good-value dining and easy access to the volcanic landscapes of the surrounding area. Hotels here are often cheaper than those in purpose-built resorts, and the lagoon at Charco de San Ginés and the Castillo de San Gabriel give you things to do without spending much. The trade-off is a more working-town atmosphere, which suits independent travellers. Canary Islands holidays built around this capital reward those who explore beyond the beach.
