Weather in Morocco in January

The warmest conditions in January are generally found along the southern and western coastline, where the Atlantic keeps temperatures more moderate.

• Agadir: Agadir is typically one of the mildest places to be in Morocco in January, with sunshine often available during the day and far less chill than inland. The long sandy bay and promenade make it easy to enjoy walks even when the weather is fresh. Evenings can still feel cool, so a light layer is worth packing. We find Agadir a reliable choice for travellers who want the most settled winter conditions on the coast. It is exactly the brief our Morocco seaside holiday deals are built around. • Essaouira: Essaouira tends to feel milder than the inland cities in January, though the Atlantic wind can be strong and make the air feel cooler than the thermometer suggests. The fortified old town is only a short walk from the harbour, so you can explore comfortably on foot. Expect breezy shores and a windswept atmosphere rather than heat. We think it suits travellers who value mild, fresh days by the sea.
• Tangier: Tangier sits near the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean influence typically keeps winter temperatures moderate compared with the interior. Rain is more likely here than in the far south, so flexible plans help. The ferry links to Spain make it a practical gateway for travellers combining Morocco with Europe. We recommend it for those who want a milder, well-connected northern base in January.
• Marina Smir: Marina Smir lies on the northern Mediterranean coast near Tetouan, where January tends to be cool but relatively mild by the sea. The marina and nearby coves are quieter than the southern resorts, which suits those wanting calm surroundings. Breezes can feel sharp, so bring a waterproof jacket. We see it as a good choice for a quiet coastal stay with a more restrained winter feel.
• Casablanca: Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and sits on the Atlantic coast, where January is typically cool, damp and mild rather than hot. The coastal position keeps extremes at bay, though showers are more likely than in the far south. It works well as a transit point for trains to other imperial cities. We suggest it for travellers who want an urban base with a milder, more changeable winter climate. It is exactly the brief our Morocco Family Holidays deals are built around.
