May Half Term to Canary Islands

These are the islands and coasts where May tends to feel warmest and most settled for a short school-break stay.

• Playa de Las Américas: Found on the sunny south-west coast of the island, this resort strip enjoys more sunshine than most of the southern shoreline, and its sheltered bays keep the sea calm for swimming. The area is a lively resort with a wide choice of restaurants and bars, so it suits travellers who want sunshine and evening activity in the same place. Its main trade-off is a busier atmosphere than quieter towns, which we think is well worth it for a warm, easy week away. It is exactly the brief our island holiday deals are built around. • Maspalomas: Maspalomas sits in the south of the island beside the protected dune system, and the dry, warm conditions here make it a dependable choice for May sunshine. Long promenades and sheltered beaches make it easy to spend a day outdoors without much planning, and the resort's flat layout suits people who prefer walking to driving. We find it one of the most reliable warm-weather bases in the Canary Islands for a short spring break. It is exactly the brief our holiday deals from Travelodeal are built around. • Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca sits in the south of the island, where the driest and sunniest conditions tend to be found, and its sandy beaches are a short walk from town. The resort is calmer than the busiest Canary Islands resorts, and it is a practical base for ferry links to Fuerteventura if you want a day trip. The trade-off is fewer nightlife options, but for a warm and relaxed May break it is an excellent fit. It is exactly the brief our holiday deals for this island are built around. • Corralejo: Corralejo, at the northern tip of Fuerteventura, combines steady warm weather with long sandy beaches that stretch towards the dunes. The island is among the driest of the Canaries, which helps May days stay dependable, and the trade winds keep the air fresh even when the sun is strong. It is an ideal place for a warm, active week, although the wind can be strong on some beaches, so we suggest checking conditions each day.
